The Perfect Time to Prom Shop
Time and time again I have proven to myself that I am a procrastinator, but when it comes to prom that’s the last thing you want to do. There are way too many style options and decisions to be made to wait until the last minute to shop. Here’s what I’ve learned from 2 years as a Stylist at Sophia’s.
Why Does it Matter?
When shopping for the perfect dress it’s important to shop EARLY, but why? For starters, after you find your perfect dress, you might need to have a few alterations in order for it to be totally tailored to you. Of course this isn't always true with every gown, but in my case, I always need straps taken in or a hem to be shortened to make it perfect for me. Fun Fact, most gowns are cut for girls who are 5’10”/5’11”, so if you’re shorter like me, these kind of alterations are totally normal. #ShortGirlSquad. If you are one of those people who will need alterations, you’ll want to find a trustworthy seamstress and get the dress to her/him as soon as possible. If you wait until the last minute during prom season, good seamstresses are often overbooked and might not be able to squeeze you in!
Another reason to shop early is to give yourself plenty of time to get all the little details you want ironed out. If you're like me, super indecisive, you might change your pop color 3 times or switch between gold or silver accessories. When you buy your gown early you have time to figure out exactly what you want in regards to shoes, jewelry, flowers, and even tux pairings. When it comes to prom, time is of the essence....Plus, you will have first pick of the gorgeous new gowns in the store!
The Perfect Time.
At Sophia’s, the best time to shop is mid January/early February. When you shop at these times, the racks are newly stocked with brand new inventory and you’ll have the best selection to choose from. If you wait until the month of, or even the month before, often times the racks have already been picked over and your perfect dress could be gone. It's important to come in as early in the season as possible, to get a first look of the gowns and give yourself plenty of time to plenty of time to make your prom day perfect! We can’t wait to see you!
